There is no need to pre-book tickets, we don’t operate online booking except for our Christmas trains, so just come to our Ticket Office and purhcase your tickets when you arrive.

Operating Times for 2024

The Railway is open from March to September.

Trains run every 15 minutes between 11 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. and 1.30 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays and also on Wednesdays in the West Sussex Summer school holidays.

The South Downs Belle runs at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. on the first Sunday of each month.

Santa Specials run on eight days in December.

2024 Events

Narrow Gauge Gala – 16th and 17th March 2024 – A special narrow gauge gala where you can expect to see our own narrow gauge locomotives, along with some special visitors. More details soon!

Easter Egg Hunt – 29th and 30th March, 1st April 2024 – The Easter Egg Hunt is always very popular. Each child spotting the hidden “eggs” receives a chocolate bunny.

Miniature Transport Weekend – 4th and 5th May 2024 – A new event for us.

Teddy Bears’ Picinic – 13th and 14th July 2024 – The Teddy Bears’ Picnics reveal all the railway’s resident teddy bears having fun and we invite families with their picnics to come and join them. Other attractions include swing boats, model railways, facepainting will all be here for all to enjoy.

Steam Gala – 24th, 25th and 26th August 2024 – The annual Steam Gala Weekend where we celebrate in style for the whole weekend with our own fleet of locos and special visiting locomotives. It’s a great opportunity to have a ride behind your favourite loco and take some very atmospheric photographs. More info coming soon!

Santa Specials – December 2024 – The Santa season will soon be here again, more information to come later in the year.

South Downs Belle

This special train runs at 12 noon and 3 p.m. on the first Sunday of every month. It travels over the whole of the railway giving a ride almost double the usual one. Premium fares of £3 for adults and £2 for children apply. The picture shows the special headboard made by member Jerry Chivers.
